I truly believe that it is because of Dawn that I was able to have the exact birth I had envisioned. She seemed to have a sixth sense, knowing exactly what I needed at each point during my labor and delivery. During the time leading up to the birth Dawn was always very supportive and always available to answer any question or address concerns I had. 	I ultimately decided to hire a doula just a few weeks before my due date because although I was confident in my husband and I being a "team" going into the birth, I was also keenly aware that a doula could offer a piece that we did not have ... that of knowledge, experience, and advice from hundreds of births before ours. Having said that, I was also clear that I was looking for someone that could be nurturing and at the same time strong enough to depend on if I needed to. Doula Dawn was the perfect combination of such attributes -- both of which came into play during my birth. Dawn treated my birth as precious as my husband and I did. She did a phenomenal job of incorporating my husband, as well as my mother, in supportive roles throughout the birth. These are moments that none of us will ever forget and were truly bonding for all of us. In addition, when the length or intensity of labor seemed almost too much to handle, the strength and confidence of Dawn pulled me right back into knowing that I could do this, and do it well. I felt safe in her presence, as my advocate and a protector, which allowed me to concentrate solely on my baby and my body. Whether Dawn was applying techniques for keeping my labor on track, answering questions on the spot about sensations in my body, or spending two hours straight spraying warm water on me in the shower as I transitioned from 4cm to 10 cm, she never wavered. When I first interviewed Dawn, I could feel the passion and emotion with which she approached her work; a profession that she swore she was put on this earth for. After having Dawn Thompson as my doula, I couldn't agree more. She was destined for this job, and she does it very well. I can not emphasize enough the extent to which Dawn was an essential part of my birth experience being a positive one. Without Dawn, the birth of my second son would have been a scary experience; with Dawn, the birth of my second son was everything I wanted: natural and peaceful and believe it or not, it was painless.
